Welcome to the second entry in our Black History Month-UK October countdown where we spotlight a Ghanaian whose work has had an impact in the UK and beyond.
Did you know that one of the architects behind the creation of Black History Month in the UK is activist and journalist Akyaaba Addai-Sebo?
Mr Addai-Sebo initiated the idea in 1987 with the support of names including Ansel Wong, whom he co-edited the book Our Story: A Handbook of African History and Contemporary Issues with in 1988.
Mr Addai-Sebo, who celebrates his birthday in October during Black History Month, told AKADi Magazine that part of his inspiration for establishing Black History Month came after hearing the story of six-year-old Marcus.
Marcus was the son of Elizabeth, the group secretary at his then job at the Greater London Council.
Listen to the two-part story Mr Addai-Sebo shared with us.
